Adirondack Packbasket

My authentically styled Adirondack Packbaskets are handwoven of premium reed. They are  available in seven sizes. The 3″, 5″, 8″ and 10″ tall pieces are ideal as decorating accents. The 15″ and 17″ versions are shown below.  The 15″ model is an excellent choice for a child to carry. The 17″ and 21″ packs are adult sized. The four tallest sizes have plywood bases and pine shoes. All baskets are available in three stains: golden oak, black walnut and red oak. Strap sets for the 3″ and 5′ baskets are leather. The 8″ and 10″ pieces have webbing straps with copper rivets and d-ring buckles. The three tallest baskets have adjustable webbing straps with sewn in buckles in three color choices; red, green or tan.

The packbaskets baskets shown below are the 15″ and 17″ sizes.  The 15″ is the perfect size for an older child to carry.  The 17″ pack will fit a smaller adult.  Both are working baskets that make transporting loads comfortable and convenient.  They each have a decorative facsimile leather    strap handle and adjustable cotton web straps.  Lighter duty than my 21″ pack, these slightly smaller versions are ideal for day hikes.

Could you recommend a basket for laundry ?

      Good Morning,

Thank you for your interest in my baskets. Yes, people have purchased my larger packs for use as hampers. However, I always point out that all reed has both a “smooth” and a “rough” side. I weave with the smooth side out, so the inside of the baskets is a bit rougher than the exterior. Although I trim the rough inside of the baskets as much as I can, there is still the posssibility it might catch sheerer fabrics. The vast majority of folks who have used them for laundry are using them in their summer camps. The most frequent comment I get is; “we’re just going to be using them for shorts, t-shirts, and towels, etc.”(typical summer casual clothes). I’ve never had anyone raise issues with the exterior texture of the basket.

The hampers available on the website are shown with facsimile packbasket straps and plywood lids with birchbark and twig accents. I have also done solid pine lids, stained to match the basket color and finished with several coats of polyurethane and a waxed and buffed finish as an add-on option.

I will go into my basket shop and take a photo of a 23″ tall birch lidded hamper and send that along shortly. The base of the hamper in the photo I’ll send is approximately 13″ X 10”.

Hope this provides useful information. Please contact me with further questions.

      Thanks again for your interest.
